February Ipsy Bag

Here is is my ipsy bag for February.  I have been an ipsy member for as long as I can remember- over three years.  Back when the ipsy girls were Justfab Stylists and they were call Glam bags! It costs $10 a month and it's really neat.  I like to try products first, so sample sizes are great- but a lot of times you get a couple full sizes as well!

Valentine's Day Essentials

When I think of Valentine's Day, I think of being soft and girly. To achieve this, I like to use blush, which is a daily essential anyway, because I have a pale visage, with no color in my cheeks naturally. I like to apply the color to the apples of my cheeks for a flushed, youthful look. Many times I may apply a cream blush and then layer a powder blush on top for lasting power. These Milani Rose Blushes are not only affordable, but they are also a joy to look at and apply beautifully to my cheeks. I also love the Too Faced Heart shaped blush, the packaging is super fun and is a high quality product.
I also like to have full glossy lips. This Lancôme gloss is not only feels nice on the lips, but the packaging is interesting. There is a little button on the front and when you press it the wand portion pops out. Addictive to play with to say the least. The color is a Raspberry Hue which is brightening without overdoing it.
Lastly, a fragrance is also key. Victoria's Secret Bombshell is an old favorite. It's uplifting and the packaging is to die for. Who can resist pink!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bobbi Brown Obsessions as of Late

I have been a fan of Bobbi Brown makeup since in my 20's. I just found her brand right up my alley, about enhancing the beauty that is already there with simple, easy to use products and packaging. The customizable palettes are a delight, especially the six pan (not pictured), with its large mirror. But I like to chuck the three pan or an individual in my bag for touch ups that I can count on. She also makes great pre-made palettes, small and easy to carry. The brush is also substantial in these palettes too.

I sort of forgot about her line, when, I was in my third trimester of pregnancy my wonderful sister showed up at my door with a non-frump present. She had a brand new six-pan in the bag she gave me, along with six shadows she had picked out specifically for me. I was so happy and I still use those shadows today!

Her glosses are also another of my fave. Moisturizing and long lasting. The white one is a brightening gloss and if you put it on over a lipstick or even your own lips, wham! you have a bright and full pout.

I have many products in the Bobbi Brown line and will definitely share more!

Baublebar Khaleesi Bracelet

Dothraki. Khalasar, Khal, Khaleesi

I saw subscription box mom present this bracelet on YouTube during a Baublebar unboxing and I had to have it. I am a huge game of thrones fan and I love dragons- a Thai dragon/serpent was my wedding theme, called a naga. I have other dragon jewelry and I wanted a bracelet too.

Baublebar's packaging is always so pretty and fun. They are often highlighted on Nordstrom's website and have a great selection of quality jewelry.

It retailed for $35. It is gorgeous, light and has crystal detailing. Such fun! Go get you one!

Daily Skin care Routine with Proactiv, Bare Minerals and Clarins

I have a pretty simple skin care routine- I use the same for day and night so that my skin is acclimated to the products and there are no freak-outs and breakouts!

I have the full proactiv system - I do use the cleanser but mostly I use ponds cold cream to wash my face.  The shower routine would be a different post :)

I focus on moisturizing and soothing with a touch of anti-aging products.   I do not wash my face in the morning- I use a toner to wake the skin up.  For this I use Clarins Camomile Toning Lotion.   Then I use the BareMinerals Brightening Treatment.  This helps face my dark spots and generally evens skin tone.  After that I use Proactiv's Pore Refining Treatment to keep acne at bay (this used to be the Repairing lotion in the old system).

After that I use Clarins double Serum (for age control).  Then Clarins Day Cream.  And then Neutrogena's sunscreen, which I spread on my face and neck.

I don't use eye cream. My day moisturizer is good enough.  If I need eye work, I use a brightening concealer.

image.jpg

One method I use is to warm the product on my fingers and then I pat the product on my face.  I do not rub or pull.  This is very effective as the product is warmed and will absorb more easily and more gently.

I have to wear this face for the rest of my life!  I like to take care of it!   Investing in effective and maybe slightly pricier products to me, is worth it.

Natural Everyday Makeup With Clarins

Hello!  I am dedicating myself full time to this blog and the development of a handbag line so I will be posting everyday!

So so when I get ready for the day I like to use the time to pamper myself.  I love my drugstore items but typically my base routine is something pricier.

In line with how obsessed I am with anything french I use french skincare and makeup.  Primarily Clarins.  I find everything about it luxurious and a pleasure to use.   It's pricey but the products do not make my face feel worse than before.  I also tend to mix in my proactiv items when I have that time of the month.

This time of year is a great time to try new products because they put out sets with lots of bonuses and gifts with purchase are usually awesome too.

In order to achieve a natural face, I use Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch.  It's like a primer that smooths fine lines and fills in wrinkles and pores and preps your skin for flawless application of whatever foundation like product you use.  Next, I use the Clarins Éclat Minute Instant Light- to brighten my skin.  I could stop there but I like a little coverage, so I use It cosmetics CC+ cream.  It has anti-aging serum, SPF50 and is color correcting.  It says full coverage but I just pump a little on my fingers and spread it on my face in a thin veil.

Then I use the Clarins Instant concealer- honestly one of the best concealers I have ever used.  I also use the instant light perfectos along the top of my cheekbones.    I set with the Clarins mineral powder (not pictured) and I use the Clarins blush protege in Miami pink 03.

For eyes, I use any neutral palette, I use the concealer as a base.  Then I take a light color and sweet it all over the lid to allow easier blending.   I also take a slightly darker color on the crease and outer third of my eye.  I also use the light color to highlight my brows (which I use a MAC brow pencil to draw in).  I use the darker color in the palette to draw a sort of soft line above my lashes.   Then I top my lashes with the Clarins Long Length mascara, which I find is volumizing without clumping and lengthening.  On my lips I used e.l.f. matte color stick in Cranberry (not pictured above).

I will post my skin care routine soon, which is also mostly Clarins.

The French use bronzer but they only use it to look tan, and not contour.   They don't like the idea of shadows on the face - they believe in bringing light.  I have always believed the same thing - when you bring light to the face, it makes you look healthier and also, younger.

September Wantable Accessories Box

Wantable is actually right here in Milwaukee and I have visited their headquarters for a lunch this past summer.  They were friendly, and showed us some sneak peeks as well as the warehouse, and how they fulfill orders.  I met the founder and he was down to earth and very easy to talk to.  Wantable is growing and they will soon have to move to a larger space.

Wantable is a favorite of the blovging community -  and there are very few boxes that can compete with it.  As a subscription box company, it offers three types of subscriptions - makeup, accessories and intimates.  They have a quiz that determines your preferences and blogger unboxings are fun to watch on YouTube because everyone gets something different.  The items and brands are a little higher quality and so, the price point is a little more than say, glossybox or jewelmint (which now has a box) at $36 a month, which includes shipping. They do offer a standalone box for $40, which you buy one time and not thereafter.

My accessories box looked like this: I said I prefer everyday wear items, mixed metal items and a boho feel.  This box is very cool, and I have been a fan since they started about 2 years ago.  The items are always super awesome quality and just things that help me branch out my style,   Subscribe here at Wantable.com.

It's My Bag Baby TIP: Muxo by Camila Alves

I am an avid collector of the muxo bags that Camila Alves designs with her mother. She has a couture line, and a more affordable line with qvc. I always catch easy pays and can budget these amazing bags into my monthly expenses (thank you hubby). Camila is married to Matthew McConaughey and is one of my personal style icons. She is practical as a mother of three, and get bags reflect that. Usually equipped with secret pockets and large organizational pouches, her bags are a mother's (or triple a personality's dream). They are fashioned out of the most beautiful leathers and surfed and often have wonderful braid, fringe and/or hardware detail. The lining is a light beige linen where I can find anything and actually see what is in my bags. I have been collecting her bags for years and I will post more soon.

This bag was sold on qvc a few years ago. The brand name muxo means 'goddess of the water' in a n African dialect and is meant to reflect the beauty of women. The symbol is a decorative fish and all her handbags have that metal symbol hang tags. This particular bag, has a beautiful textured clasp for the front pocket. It has a bi leather color design in neutral. The handles are braided. There is also a muxo zipper pull for the largest inside pocket. And there are two large inside outside pockets, in addition to an expandable large main pocket.

I cannot tell you how I love these bags. I routinely patrol ebay and poshmark got deals on the bags and colors I missed.

BAG TIP: if you have a double handle bag, a lot of time one of the handles slip off your shoulder. A trick I use is to cross the handles, and they stay securely and as long as I want. See pictures.

Stay tuned for more bag reviews.

Muxo bags are sold on qvc new. Watch the videos of a beautiful Camila Alves talk about the anatomy of a handbag.

Perfume Obsession as of Late

Lancôme La vie Est belle is the latest from the company with Julia Roberts as the face. I love this perfume because it's low key and very feminine and wears very well. I can still smell it on me at the end of the day and even those who I know don't like perfume or have sensitivities have no issues when I wear this one. I would describe this as a florally musk. And the bottle is understated and classy. Go get you some!

NOTD - Where Spring at!??

I felt like using pastels since all the magazines and ad campaigns an new colors are filled with bright and happy colors to combat this long winter here in DC. I am using CoverGirl Outlast, which is primer and color in one! The lighter color is Salt Water Taffy and the blue is Mint Mojito. This formula is easy to apply, wears long and comes in some great colors!!!!! I also love using a Pacifica lotion on Tuscan Blood orange to lift me up with it's citrusy scent!
